Australian Gothic

“Why are we afraid of the dark? When it’s the sun that burns."

Australian Gothic is drawn from the Australian backyard wildlife. A nocturnal landscape of graphite on black paper. Why are we afraid of the dark? When it’s the sun that burns.

This art noir aesthetic envelops and embraces the shadow. The place of our subconscious, our dreams and where we might wonder at a star-pricked, inky black sky. Regardless whether we perceive it day or night here, we perpetually orbit and bob about a cosmos of vast darkness. Drawing these creepy crawlies, isn’t to spook or scare you, but an invitation to step closer to the marvel and wonder in curiosity of the creatures we so readily stereotype as frightening, evil or unlucky.
